The commercial district is mainly vacant. By working with the city to acquire temporary license to utilize commercial spaces for pop up shops, we can inspire new business to settle in our city.

Since we have no true cultural facilities to do programming, I'm having to resort to creating programming around out public art as a way to inform the community that we have a cultural arts division and arts council. I see us engaging in partnerships with local artists and arts organization, and our city's communications office, to create interactive and educational programming.

1.2: Project Ideation
almost 4 years agoAssignment 1.2: Project Ideation
Using the readings and discussions from the first weeks of class, develop a one-paragraph summary of the project, program, or policy you’d most like to explore. Include context, supporting ideas, and potential challenges.
Think Logically: Why is this useful or relevant in your community? What have you read or learned that supports your ideas? What are some of the problems you worry about encountering?
Think Narratively: How does it inspire you individually? Tell a story of your project happening within your community. Who is there? What do they do? How does it impact them?
Submit this assignment to the discussion board page on the collaboration platform and respond to at least two of your peers’ ideas.

2.1: Equity & Community
almost 4 years agoDefine the potential partners and residents that will touch on or be impacted by your project..
Think Logically: Identify everyone who you think will be involved? Have you taken a holistic approach that focuses on ensuring equity in the program you’re envisioning? Write 2-3 paragraphs about your partners and participants, and then add a table showing each group, how role they’ll take in the project, and what you’ll need to support their involvement.
Think Narratively: Share your project story idea with someone from the creative community in your town. Who did they see being part of the project? How could they imagine them being involved? Who did they think would be most impacted and how? Write a paragraph about their perspective on the project. Did it differ from yours? How?
Respond to at least two of your peers’ ideas.

Collin Maysover 3 years agoCenter Line Yard Festival
Establishing a Center Line yard festival will be a great attraction for us. The yard festival will include the ability to sell art, food, and other products, such things you may find on ebay or facebook marketplace. Our goal is to bring more culture and art to our downtown district. Those involved will include the Center Line Business Council, DDA members, and other businesses in the city. City staff and elected officials will also play a big role in making the event a success. Residents believe the best way to get businesses and outside residents to invest more in Center Line is to have a fun, interactive activities. Incorporating a yard festival allows for interaction from businesses and residents. Something the entire community can enjoy and partake in.

I am looking at piloting my placemaking project in a couple of different neighborhoods in downtown Little Rock. Both emanate from the same location but head in different directions. One (River Market) goes through multi-family (upper to middle income), corporate, and tourist areas whereas the other (Pettaway) goes through single family and small businesses. River Market would include several City entities: Mayor Frank Scott, Jr., City Director Dean Kumpuris, the MacArthur Park Historic District Commission, River Market Design Review Committee, Parks & Recreation Department, Convention & Visitors Bureau, Public Works Department and Planning & Development Department. Other partners would include the Quapaw Quarter Association, River Market Neighborhood Association, property owners/developers of the multi-family units, Rock Region Metro transit authority, Downtown Little Rock Partnership, Clinton Presidential Center, the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, University of Arkansas Clinton School, Central Arkansas Library System, Historic Arkansas Museum, MacArthur Park Group, and Arkansas Arts Center. Pettaway would include several City entities: Mayor Frank Scott, Jr., City Director Erma Hendrix, the MacArthur Park Historic District Commission, Housing & Neighborhood Programs Department, Parks & Recreation Department, Public Works Department and Planning & Development Department. Other partners would include the State Representative Denise Ennett, Quapaw Quarter Association, Pettaway Neighborhood Association, SoMa Business District, Rock Region Metro transit authority, UA Little Rock Law School, Downtown Little Rock Partnership, MacArthur Park Group, and Arkansas Arts Center. In both instances these partners/participants would be involved in getting community buy-in. These are the players in the respective neighborhoods. They would be vital to get people engaged and assist in getting input. 3.2 Aligning Assets
almost 4 years agoDecide on your individual project direction and explore what you’re learning about how creative placemaking projects come together.
Write the section of your implementation plan about how to support your program, policy, or project. Identify at least 3-5 internal and 3-5 external assets that you can leverage for support.
Remember, assets don’t have to be financial - they can also be communication tools, campaigns, initiatives in strategic plans, stated goals for municipal leaders, etc.
Share this portion of your plan - which can be in narrative form or in a table - on the discussion board page on the collaboration platform. Respond to at least two of your peers’ ideas.
You cannot leave comment in this Idea unless you are a part of the project panel.

4.1 Creating Partnerships
almost 4 years agoAssignment 4.1: Creating Partnerships
Review your assignment and comments from 3.1 and identify any partners you’d like to work with on the project or policy - including artists, arts organizations, culture bearers, key supporters from your agency, community groups and leaders, local non-profits etc.
Think Logically: Create a short list of potential partners, including what their role might be, whether they are paid partners or project partners, and how and when you’ll reach out to them, and what their role will be in your finalized project plan. Post as a table on the discussion board page on the collaboration platform.
Think Narratively: Write a paragraph that describes a narrative of how a specific partner from the arts community could take a role in the formation of your project or policy creation process. If possible, share that idea with someone from your local creative community and get their feedback.
On the discussion board, respond to at least two of your peers’ ideas. Link to your original post in the submission box, and submit for grading.
You cannot leave comment in this Idea unless you are a part of the project panel.

5.1 Evaluation, Iteration, and Feedback
almost 4 years agoDevelop a one-page document that outlines how you plan to evaluate, refine, and improve the project, program, or policy. Include regular strategies for reaching out to all stakeholder groups and audiences and the methods you’ll use to gather their feedback.
Think through ideas of how you’ll approach emergent or changing contexts. What outcome measures does the project need to meet within the context of existing municipal plans? What outcomes seem inherent to the project itself? How can the two different perspectives (internal and external) be supported by an evaluation plan?
Post on the discussion board page on the collaboration platform and respond to at least two of your peers’ ideas. Link to your original post in the submission box, and submit for grading.
